Adventures in Quebec
posted Tuesday March 6, 2007 @ 09:50 by bigass News

This post is fashionably late. Procrastination is a wonderful thing.

In keeping with tradition of educational trips (Example 1, Example 2, Example 3, Example 4), I've detailed our adventures.

After my last trip to Quebec, I said I would not be coming back, unless it was to Mont Tremblant.

So that's what we did.

Coles notes: We went to Mont Tremblant last week, we skied, we tore it up and disregarded all signage, we pissed off some locals, we poked some fun at the expense of the francophone community, we came back.

In no particular order, here’s what we learnt in Quebec this time around (as opposed to last time around).

-Their rural speed limits are extremely optimistic, with speeds going from 90km/h to 50, to 25 and back atleast once every kilometer.

-Red turn signs with chevrons mean you’re going to die (Translation: Slow the fuck down!).

-Google maps will give you directions of how to crawl up the ass backwards snow mobile paths by default. In such case, a 6.5 hour drive magically becomes 9.

-When you realize you’re at the entrance of a snow mobile path that’s closed to cars in the winter, stay calm and dodge the deer on the way back to the nearest point of civilization.

-A complementary fire alarm/drill at 2:00am is included with every stay, follow up drills are also available at 2:30 and 3:00am.

-You might feel like you’re on the titanic with alarm bells ringing and people screaming in French running down the halls with their kids (according to Mike).

-45 minutes stuck swinging on a 2000ft up the mountain on chair lift is worth $20 in compensation coupons.

-Said coupons are redeemable exactly no where on the resort and near worthless.

-Said coupons result in sneers and derision from French staff when attempted to be used for steak dinners and pitchers of beer.

-One pitcher of "the blonde" is enough, the second pitcher of "the red head" beer is too much... fun. (R2k knows...)

-Signs marking treed trails as closed in French don’t count

-Don’t fall on a tree stump.

And dont get me started on La Diable!!
That place is so sketchy, dodgy and ends up becoming kinda cool somewhere along the way.
